Why are certain modems link up to the Internet much easier and faster than others?
I have 3 broadband modems, An old Aztech USB modem and two wireless router modems from Prolink and Belkin. Recently both Prolink and Belkin took ages to link up to internet and the signal is very unstable. I am now using the old USB modem which has no trouble linking up to the internet but my kids are complaining for the lack of wireless feature.

1. wireless connection follow diffrent protocols as compared to wired connections and these are strictly encrypted.. and hence take longer to make connection .. the inherent capacity of the wireless xmission , generally speaking, is less as compared to a direct "wired" connection. 2.There may be a disturbance , radio disturbaces is what engineers call it, possibly a microwave, or an ac with high interference . try changing the position of your routers and see what works best for you. 3. make sure , they are synchronised with your pc, .. i've known some wireless routers working ok without sync, but some simply don't and unfortunately your's seem to be in the later category. 4. Get in touch with your ISP who could help you with possible tips as to what works best for "their " type of connection or call the modem maker, they may give you some insight or best call your pc manufacturer.. if you bought this modem with the pc , even better, covers it under warranty... that is if you have one...:-) and simply tell them that's its not the best.. they'll walk you thru the process of sync and optimization.

How can I link up to a friends webcam to see what is going on?
Corina Tettinger is a lampworker and has set up a webcam link to her torch.

If she is using an Instant Messaging engine (eg Yahoo IM) to share the webcam to the public, then you would have to get an account on the same IM and then request permission to have her add you as a webcam participant.

How does Maths link up with the Universe?
I have to do a poster on maths, and have decided to link it up with the universe by saying "Maths Is Astronomical". Please can you provide several interesting cases where maths is utilized in the study of astronomy, and how it develops major advances in space. For example, why do we use maths with regard to space study? How does it help? Why is it vital to the universe? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Two things I can think of off of the top of my head. One is fairly basic and could be handled by someone in secondary school (which I'm assuming you are). The planet Neptune was discovered by calculating (using Math) abnormalities in the orbit of the other planets, especially Uranus. It was predicted mathematically before it was ever seen. The second is a little more complicated, but an even better example. Einstein's work was entirely mathematical in nature. He did no ACTUAL experiments, but instead performed what he called THOUGHT EXPERIMENTS. In other words, he used math to come up with some pretty weird predictions that turned out to be true. Here's two examples. The theory of General Relativity dictated that gravity warps space. Pretty wild claim. As it turns out, a man by the name of Eddington did an experiment during a solar eclipse in which he measured the position of background stars during a solar eclipse. Since the stars were visible very near the edge of the sun, relativity predicted that their apparent positions would be shifted because the light from them was passing through the space that was being warped by the sun's mass (gravity). The short story is - the stars were bent EXACTLY as far as Einstein's theory had predicted - a theory derived using mathematics exclusively. If you want something a little "closer to home" consider this. General relativity also predicted that objects that were in motion experienced a slow down in time from a stationary observer. This raised eyebrows as well at the time, but today, the Global Positioning Satellite system would not function correctly if we did not compensate for the "time dilation" experienced by the satellites in the GPS constellation as a result of their speed. In fact, the timing is so sensitive that if we did not compensate for the differences in clock speeds between the onboard clocks on the satellites and the clocks on the earth, the GPS would have a precessing error of nearly 1 km / day.!!!! Have fun with those. Feel free to email me if you'd like me to explain any of this! Take care.

How can I get another gameboy color and is it possible to obtain 4 at the same time for link up modes?
My gameboy color fell to the ground and I had to get a gameboy advance for my birthday in 2002. From my experience of ordering online you even could get gameboy color games as they are old. Also I said 4 because of the link up battles and how can I do this possibly?

instead of getting a new GBC, try downloading an "emulator" on your computer. It is legal to download and play games you own, and it's free. you can even connect to other computers to do linked battles
